One of my favorite things about living in northwest Ohio is exploring the local shops and restaurants. This week I had the opportunity to visit the cutest little boutique, Bowinkles, up in Sylvania. Bowinkles opened in February 2016 on Main Street in downtown Sylvania. Upon walking in I saw that there were cute stylish items for babies, toddlers, and children (Size Newborn- 8). The products were displayed in a neat and organized way that made shopping really easy. My daughter’s first birthday is coming up and I wanted to find her the perfect birthday present–even though she will only like the paper.

Feeling the quality of the products

The quality of the items found in Bowinkles is superior- from the fabrics of the clothes, bibs, and swaddles to the great craftsmanship on the toys, adorable books, and other items. Outerwear, swimwear, day to day outfits, special occasion outfits, and accessories were all in abundance. They feel luxurious and like it’ll hold up well to wearing, washing, reading, and playing. The cost is reflective of this. Most outfits and sleepers started at $40 or more. There was a sale/clearance room at the back where I scored the perfect mermaid outfit by Mud Pie for my little mermaid. We often call her a mermaid because she loves to tuck her legs into one leg hole while she sleeps. I’m not quite sure how she manages it, but in the morning she’s gone from little miss to little mermaid. It is worth noting that all sale/clearance items are final sale.

I really enjoyed browsing the small store and taking my time looking at all of the merchandise. In addition to the cute mermaid outfit, I purchased a Copper Pearl bib. I have seen the brand online before, but have never had the opportunity to see and feel it in person. It was amazing how soft the bib was and I know it’ll be great as my daughter is currently cutting her one-year molars. Bowinkles also carried swaddles and hats by Copper Pearl.

Toys that won’t annoy you

I also got a gorgeous stackable animal set by the French company, Moulin Roty. These wooden animals are painted as an adorable goose, fox, and mouse. The stackable nature will work on fine motor skills for little ones. I also really liked the cute little bags and purses for toddlers and children to carry. Especially since they like to hoard rocks, leaves, and who knows what else around. A lot of the books had matching stuffed animals so your child could curl up with their new favorite book and character and hopefully drift off for a nap or bedtime.

Social Media

Before I shopped in-store I checked out their Instagram and Facebook pages. They are really active on social media and have been having shop from home parties and advertise local events. I think the shop from home parties are such a great way for businesses to cater to consumers during the COVID-19 crisis. I know right now that I typically try to avoid bringing my children out to stores if I can help it.

Shop a LOCAL GEM

Overall, I would highly encourage you to check out Bowinkles in Sylvania if you’re in need of a special present for a child in your life. They also offered complimentary gift wrapping. So it’s even easier to pick out the perfect gift for a birthday, baby shower, or other milestones. It’s nice to support local businesses whenever you get the chance and a boutique such as Bowinkles will have you coming back for special items time after time.
