Northwest Ohio is notably known for its Metroparks and other beautiful outdoor scenes, but let’s be honest for a minute. When it’s wintertime and you need to layer up your kiddos “A Christmas Story” style, getting outside feels like an absolute nightmare. Luckily enough, there are plenty of warm and cozy coffee shops to seek refuge until the weather mellows out. Whether you’re in Toledo, Maumee, or another surrounding area, we’ve found the best kid-friendly coffee shops to check out this winter season. The following ten coffee shops on our list are great for families to take a load off and some even host kid-friendly events too!
Sip Coffee – West Toledo
SIP Coffee is a personal favorite of Toledo Moms. Not only because it’s a great workspace when we’re on deadlines, but also because it plays host to Sippy Cup Storytime every Saturday at 9:30 AM. If you’re looking for a good place to take your little ones and you find yourself in need of an espresso shot (or five), this is the place to be on a Saturday morning.

Black Kite Coffee & Pies – Old West End
If you’re looking for a good brunch spot, Black Kite is a great place to be at the end of the week. Every weekend, brunch is offered from 10 am-2 pm. If you want to bring the whole family, Black Kite is the first of two stops for the Positively Portable Preschool with Teacher Denice on Saturdays. Families are always encouraged to come for storytime at 9:30 and stay for brunch afterward.

Plate One – Downtown Toledo
This downtown Toledo gem is the second of two stops for the Positively Portable Preschool. Their food menu comes with plenty of choices and they offer a variety of coffee and tea drinks. This way, you’re sure to find something to satisfy your picky eater as well as something to fill the caffeine void in your heart.

Dragon’s Roost Coffee & Games – Sylvania
Those of you who are looking at this list and took notice of the lack of options for moms of school-aged kiddos…fear not. Dragon’s Roost is the perfect stop for families to nerd out and try a selection of games while sipping on their treats. Their menu is full of creatively named refreshments to match several different fandoms. It’s truly any coffee/treat loving, nerdy family’s dream.

Plate 21 – South Toledo
I love this South Toledo gem because there’s a secluded corner of couches, perfect for hiding away with your little ones. This space is especially helpful if you’re worried about bothering others. Plate 21 offers a variety of food and drink items on its menu for adults and kids alike.
