Things to do on President’s Day – for Free – in and around Northwest Ohio!

President’s Day is on February 17th!

Schools might be closed for the day but there are still some fun places around the area open and ready for the kids to explore!

The end of a three day weekend is a great time to get out, shake off some of that cabin fever, and explore something new!

Here is a great list of free, kid-friendly activities in and around the Northwest, Ohio area! If you are looking for something unique or new; there are so many places to discover!

577 Foundation

Hours: 9:00am – 5:00pm

The 577 Foundation, located in Perrysburg, Ohio, is a wonderful garden and earth-friendly area especially made for kids to learn and enjoy. The grounds also have a few indoor buildings where children can explore; a log cabin, library, and biodome, just to name a few.

Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge

Hours: 9:00am – 4:00pm

Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge is located in Oak Harbor, Ohio. Weather permitting, it is a great place filled with many walking paths to explore the refuge and observe the wildlife. The drive and area are scenic and peaceful. Even if the weather is not cooperating, there is a wonderful educational building right at the front entrance.

Visit Your Local Park!

If the weather is nice, head out to your favorite park or find a new one you have never been to!

Swan Creek and Wildwood Metropark have wonderful indoor wildlife viewing rooms!

Swan Creek Metropark is hosting an Animal Tracks event.

Sidecut Metro Park in Maumee, Ohio

Museum of Natural History- University of Michigan

Hours: 9:00am- 5:00pm

Museum of Natural History- the University of Michigan is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Kids who love dinosaurs, space, and all things science and not going to want to miss out on this place! There’s plenty of hands-on exhibits, things to see and learn! Just a short drive up North!

National Museum Of The United States Airforce

Hours: 9:00am – 5:00pm

The National Museum Of The United States Airforce is located near Dayton, Ohio. “The World’s Largest Military Aviation Museum”. Kids who love airplanes, history, or military-related things will enjoy this activity. The Museum has exhibits of historic military vehicles, missiles, and planes. It is also a great place to learn about history, particularly the Wright Brothers.

The Toledo Zoo

Hours: 10:00am – 4:00pm

The Toledo Zoo located in Toledo, Ohio is always a wonderful place to visit! Even on the cold days, you can make your way into the indoor exhibits such as the beautiful aquarium! Although the Zoo is not a completely free activity, it is free to zoo members and free on Mondays to Lucas County Residents!

If you are really looking to celebrate President’s Day, in true President’s day fashion by looking back on history and remembering some of the President’s; what better way to do it then to visit some of their Memorials? There happen to be a few in the area that are quite interesting. They are all free to go check out and might make a good road trip!
