Kindergarten At Maumee Valley Country Day School | What You Need To Know

0

Thank you to Maumee Valley Country Day School for sponsoring this post and to Muna Joshi, Associate Director of Admissions, for sharing information about MVCDS kindergarten with our community of Toledo Moms.

Your baby is growing up, and kindergarten is right around the corner. Whether you are a full-time stay-at-home mom, a full-time working mom, or fall somewhere in between, the success of your child is at the center of your heart. Preparing for kindergarten is so much more than acquiring an academic skillset that includes the alphabet, number, color, and shape recognition.

Maumee Valley is currently enrolling for their 2021-22 kindergarten class. The kinder year at MVCDS serves as a gap between the Early Learning Center and the Lower School but implements the same learning through play, physical, and social interactions. But the most significant key point to kindergarten at MVCDS is Forest School.

Forest School is the outdoor learning program where children can explore nature while learning on Maumee Valley’s 75-acre campus. Through winter, all the children can explore the outdoors thanks to a gracious donation of special all-weather suits that fit all children. Students have the opportunity to learn outdoors if it is sunny, cloudy, rainy or snowy! Forest School allows children to learn at their pace through their own interests so that you will have a broad approach between teacher-led and child-led learning. Evidence shows that children benefit from fresh air and the time spent outside, instead of getting lost in technology and other activities. After a year through a pandemic, we as moms can agree that time spent outdoors will be nourishment for their tiny souls.

Jean Piaget, world-renowned psychologist and theorist on childhood cognitive development, who was once quoted as saying:

“What is the goal of education? Are we forming children that are only capable of learning what is already known? Or should we try developing creative and innovative minds, capable of discovery from the preschool age on, throughout life?”

During the kindergarten year, your child will grow independently on thinking deeply, listening to critical points, and asking questions about important topics. The classroom sizes are small, which makes learning more one-on-one and child-led. These pivotal years are crucial for your child to develop. Maumee Valley Country Day School is the school to start your child off for a brighter future.

Maumee Valley Country Day School has been part of the Toledo community for over 135 years — it is one of Northwest Ohio’s greatest assets. It was initially founded in New York as a boarding school for girls and moved to Toledo to become The Smead School for Girls. In 1934, the school changed its name to Maumee Valley Country Day School and admitted boys. Today the school attracts students from across the world from ages 3-12th grade. It is the ONLY institution in Northwest Ohio that is an accredited co-educational, nonsectarian, and independent school.

If you are looking to enroll your child, now is the time to enroll your child in one of Toledo’s top schools.
