Falcon Camp, widely known as Ohio’s premier overnight camp, is an intentionally small private cap located in the forest on an 8-mile lake. With a limit of only 110 campers, there are plenty of opportunities to make new friends and find someone interesting, while staying small enough to always see a familiar face, and counselors can get to know everyone by the second day.
Unique Schedules
For so many campers, the best part of camp is that they have so many choices throughout their daily schedule. This means that campers always enjoy what they are doing because they choose it! Falcon Camp has four 90 minute periods between breakfast and dinner. Campers will participate in two to three activities during each of those times. Campers get to choose which activity they will go to every day. The choice is theirs on whether they will choose a different activity from day to day or specialize! Activities include archery, tennis, drama, athletics, riflery, horseback riding, sailing, canoeing, swimming, crafts, nature study, and more!
Falcon offers unique activities throughout the week in addition to the daily activities offered. These include music, photography, overnights, cookouts, movie-making, field trips, half-day activities, weekend competitions, and others. Some campers will have the option to participate in unique activities instead of their regularly scheduled activities. Others are planned for entire units.
Cabin Living
The cabins that house the campers are in units (groupings by age and gender). We have six units, ranging in age from six to sixteen. Three are boys units (Blue Jays, Kestrels, Eagles), and three girls units (Robins, Cardinals, Hawks). Campers travel to daily activities by unit and eat with their cabin. During camp, cabins will ofter form special bonds. Living together for two weeks or more provides a truly unique experience that can’t be duplicated by a year in the classroom at school. So many times we hear about lifelong friendships formed in one session.
Camp Benefits
Falcon Camp is designed to encourage learning while also maximizing the fun! Campers will learn to be more independent, resilient, and tolerant. Falcon Camp will help teach campers to problem solve, work on decision-making, respect for others, and leadership. Since campers will be at camp for an extended period of time, two weeks being the shortest, campers are truly able to build learning skills instead of over-packing every moment until they drop. From the daily routine with engaging activities to gaining life long friendships, Falcon Camp is truly a wonder.
One of the best features of our camp is the no cell phone policy, and while it may seem daunting, most of our campers come away feeling as though it made the experience. Today’s society makes it hard to disconnect and truly experience what is happening around us. At camp, most of the time is outdoors which could mean building a fire or just learning about nature. By removing social media and contact back home, our campers can focus on truly genuine and in the moment. This helps young people learn how to have positive, productive social exchanges.
Committed to Your Families
Falcon Camp has been around since 1959. Dave Devey has been in his role as owner/director since 1984. The administration at Falcon is key to the training, support, and oversight of the staff. The administration team works hard all year round in order to make sure that the staff has the tools to be successful. Falcon Camp uses its 100 years of experience and expertise in order to create an environment that ensures both campers and staff thrive.
Our Falcon counselors (between the ages of 18 – 25) are carefully selected and trained in first aid, CPR, child abuse prevention, and much more. Many of our staff are “homegrown,” having been Falcon campers and completing our Staff Development Program. Through this program, our oldest campers and junior counselors are trained to be supports to the counselors with the other campers and activities. Our staff is passionate, well-trained, knowledgeable, and ready to share a fun-filled summer with their campers. We require all counselors to go through pre-camp training on how to build communities within their cabins and units. Falcon staff is the foundation of our close-knit camp community, and we ensure that they are prepared to help campers have the best summer they can.
