The Drive Inn Movie Guide

1

Tis the season, WE MADE IT!! It is officially Summer 2021. I think I speak for everyone when I say that Summer 2020 looked very different than ever before. Our go-to summer bucket list items were, for the most part, not options for us last year. I don’t know about all of you, but I am really looking forward to doing all of the quintessential summertime memory making traditions.

As I write this and think about all of the things we have planned as a family this summer, there is one thing that we have never done and it has made its way to the top of our list. In our family, we have 14-year-old twins and a 2 year old so we are constantly looking for thing to do that will keep the interest of everyone, kids and adults alike.

A night at the Drive-Inn seems like the most perfect solution! The idea that we can get in our comfy clothes, pack our snacks and blankets, sit in our car and watch movies is right up our alley. It dawned on me… we have never done this before and I know nothing about the local Drive-Inn options we have in our area. LIGHT BULB! If I don’t know, surely there have to be other mamas out there that don’t either, right? So here we go, yall….. I did the research for ya and here are some of the local gems we have close to home to plan a fun filled family night out.

*Please remember that this information in this article is personal research that I did so some information may have changed and some Covid related restrictions or business changes may continue to be in place. Always call ahead for specifics*

This theatre offers double feature films 7 days a week. Tickets are available for purchase online and you pay by the car full. In your vehicle, each occupant must have a seat belt. Meaning, you cannot pack 12 people in the minivan. You do not need to remain in your car during the movie, you can get our and bring your own chairs and set up a little bit of a camp. Pet friendly for the fur babies as long as they are on a leash at all times. Rain or shine movie showings! Concessions are available and you can also bring your own for a $10 permit fee. The movie selection varies and from the research I have done, they often have a mix on the same night. You may have a cartoon family film and then something PG13 following. Great opportunity to have the littles sleep in the car and then the older kids and adults enjoy something that is not animated. Sound is played right through your car radio and its all easy!

They offer a variety of games and fun for before the movie including putt putt style golf, sand volleyball courts and cornhole, among others. This theatre is dog friendly as long they are on a leash and if you only want to see the second feature, that is fine too! You would just arrive for the last feature, but sill pay the full feature price. This location came HIGHLY recommended by several of my fellow Toledo Moms contributors and my friends rave about this one, too.

MEMORY LANE DRIVE INN – Frenchtown, Michigan

Located about an hour north of Toledo, this theatre in Michigan offers double features in a rain or shine open air theatre. There is, like in our previous recommendations, a $7.00 outside food and drink permit to be purchased and there are concessions available. There is also a play area for the kids and looks like a night of pure fun and enjoyment for the whole family! The sound is played through your car stereo, and you can open your tailgate and lay out to enjoy the film. You may also bring your blankets and chairs to create your own movie viewing space in front of your vehicle. Memory Lane Drive Inn looks to be a family hit and offers an array of movie selections for everyone.

A few things to remember to bring.. you know I love a good list!

  • Flashlight
  • Bug Spray
  • Chairs
  • Blankets/pillows/comfy clothes
  • Jacket or layered clothing
  • Portable radio if you plan to sit outside of your vehicle
  • Umbrella (just in case)
  • Chargers for portable devices

After writing this post for Toledo Moms, I seriously cannot wait to pack up the car and the kids and head on out. These theatres have similar rules, similar offerings, and without a doubt will provide a night of memories that the family will never forget! Now, I ask a favor from all of you. If you know of another location that should be mentioned, please reach out and let us know! We are always looking to update our lists to include the greatest that is to offer our mamas! Happy Summer, y’all!!

  1. An umbrella is such a forgotten object when going to the drive-in so this was a great reminder! I’ve always wanted to visit Filed of Dreams too
