Congratulations on the birth of your baby! After months of anticipation you can finally hold that precious bundle of joy. And thank goodness that we are somehow programmed to forget the physical discomfort of bringing that precious bundle into the world as soon as we hold him/her. Then reality sets in: the uterus needs to cleanse itself of the byproducts from the pregnancy.
There are 3 stages of postpartum bleeding. This is known as Lochia. While similar to a menstrual period, it typically lasts for four to six weeks post-delivery. The Lochia contains blood, pieces of the uterine lining, mucus and white blood cells. The bleeding is caused by shedding and restoration of the uterine lining.
- Rubra: Lochia rubra occurs in the first 3-4 days after childbirth. It is reddish in color-hence the term ‘rubra’. It is made up of mainly blood, bits of fetal membranes, decidua, meconium and cervical discharge.
- Lochia Serosa: The lochia rubra gradually changes color to brown and then yellow over a period of about one week. It is called lochia serosa at this stage. The lochia serosa contains less red blood cells but more white blood cells, wound discharge from the placental and other sites, and mucus from the cervix.
- Lochia Alba: The Lochia alba is a whitish, turbid fluid which drains from the vagina for about another 1 – 2 weeks. It mainly consists of decidual cells, mucus, white blood cells, and epithelial cells. gynaeonline.com/lochia.htm
The benefits of chiropractic care to relieve misalignments, coupled with nutrition and very specialized Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) treatments could very possibly minimize the post-partum bleeding and have the perineum area feeling recovered much faster than usual. Not ot mention of relive of low back pain.
For those of you who experienced back labor, you can relate to having a sore lower back and pelvis/tailbone. Pushing can engage the entire body: tightening of neck muscles, mid-back and, of course, the lower back/pelvis. Trigger point therapy and chiropractic adjustments can be of tremendous relief to the entire spine and pelvis. The FSM therapy can help expedite the recovery of the peritoneum area. In using FSM, it’s been found that various frequencies can be used to potentially reduce inflammation (swelling), repair tissue, and reduce pain. ATP is the major source of energy for all cellular reactions in the body. Scientific studies have shown that FSM reduces inflammation by 62%, increases ATP (energy production) by 500% and protein synthesis by 70%. This may help to expedite with the recovery process.
A recent new mom who underwent this type of therapy reported that by day 10 post-partum the bleeding had stopped. The perineum was feeling almost like nothing had happened in that area. How about a pre-pregnancy sized uterus in less than 6 weeks? Who doesn’t want to be feeling this wonderful shortly after giving birth? By the way, chiropractic care is possible while pregnant. Why suffer from back pain needlessly.
