Back to School Wellness Tips for Your Whole Family

Making the transition back to school impacts the whole family.

From schedules to study habits, students and parents alike need to be at their best to help things go as smoothly as possible.

To help you prepare your family for the transition, here are a few simple wellness tips that will help you stress less, and stay sane, as your children go back to school.

  1. Establish a Sleep Schedule

It’s likely that your family’s summer sleep schedule is a bit different than the school sleep schedule. Going to bed earlier to accommodate waking up earlier and having the energy needed to make it through the day without feeling exhausted is important for you and your children.

Get on your adjusted schedule as soon as possible and try your best to maintain it for the entire family. Doing so will help your body adapt to the changes with more ease.

  1. Stay hydrated

Drinking enough water will help boost your energy levels, support your immune system, and decrease mental fog and moodiness.

Adding fruit to your water and setting reminders to notify you to drink more are great ways to ensure that you’re drinking enough throughout the day.

  1. Get organized

Whether you need to de-clutter or plan out your days, getting organized will help you minimize the stress that the back to school transition can cause.

There are many resources that can help you make this happen, including planners, dry erase boards, apps, and professional organizers. Use as many as you need to in order to get organized to go back to school.

  1. Eat nutritiously

Eating foods that nourish your body will support your mental and physical health, keeping your energy up, and your attitude positive.

Packing healthy snacks that are easy to grab throughout the day will help you avoid hungry episodes that cause you to munch on any and everything.

  1. Breathe

If tension arises while you’re transitioning back to school, try breathing your way through it. Taking a few minutes to deep breathe can immediately release the stress and tension you’re feeling. It will also help you focus on what truly matters.

Simply inhale through your nose for five seconds and exhale out of your mouth for five seconds. This practice will quickly decrease your blood pressure and calm frazzled thoughts so you can move on with your day in a positive way.

  1. Have fun

You want to enjoy whatever work you’re doing and you want your children to enjoy going to school.

Practicing gratitude for life’s simple moments and remaining lighthearted will help the whole family’s transition back to school. Also, it will make it a bit more enjoyable!

Keep in mind that there is no right or wrong way for you and your family to make the transition back to school. These practices will support your overall well-being during this busy time and when things seem back to normal.

Choosing the practices that can easily fit into your current routine will help you maintain them. They will also help keep you and your family well.
