International Women's Day 2020

Who Runs the World? GIRLS! I mean, just listen to Beyonce- she puts it perfectly! I know we as women feel like a lot of things would not be possible if it weren’t for us. Am I right or am I right?! As such strong human beings, we raise children, run a household, hold careers of all types & look like a BOSS doing it! Not to mention eat healthily & work out. Snooze. Just thinking about it is exhausting!

Supporting Each Other

Whether it be in the workplace or in our personal lives, we as women need to be supporting each other & lifting each other up. Sometimes it looks like donating to girl’s/women’s charities, sponsoring events and fundraisers for groups such as the Girl Scouts, participating in fun runs or purchasing items from your friend’s small business versus the big chain stores.

Other times it is as simple as nice comments to others, being a listening ear or lending a helping hand without expecting anything in return. When your girlfriend is feeling down, you help straighten her crown & keep going. When those little girls are having a bad day and are feeling as if they can’t go on, you chat them up like they are the queen of the world that they are!

International Women’s Day

Women all around the world want to be seen & heard. It’s not always in a big leadership type of way but in every aspect of life; women like to feel & know that they matter. International Women’s Day (IWD) was created to do JUST that. The first IWD was in 1911 and has grown to be a POWERFUL movement for gender equality. Of course, we have come such a long way since 1911 for women’s rights and even though it is something that sounds simple, there is still much work to be done!

“International Women’s day is a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural & political achievements of women” (internationalwomensday.com). Women’s salaries are rising but still are not equal & more women are in the workplace & political systems, but we are not there yet.

Ways to Celebrate

Many people have not heard of or even celebrated International Women’s day until the last couple of years due to floral shops & supermarkets advertising with flowers and small gifts. These are to symbolize the extraordinary accomplishments of women & to empower and encourage them to pave a way for more work to be done. So let us celebrate each other for the amazing women that we are! Whether you SAHM or a working mom or even if you are not a mom, we all have a voice and we need to use it!

Every year, the IWD committee is funded by charities & partnerships such as Amazon, Avon & North Face. This committee keeps the website up to date, adds relevant articles & information, throws events & forms partnerships. The site is a platform for all to learn about and share the IWD mission.

The International Women’s Day campaign for 2020 focuses on the notion of “Collective Individualism.” Exactly as it sounds, it means that all people make a whole and women should be held at an equal playing ground. To raise awareness, there are many events such as fun runs, festivals, marches & speaker forums.

Always remember that collectively, we can create a gender-equal world. After all, this world couldn’t run without us!
