The Heartbreak in Losing a Friend

0

When you become a mom, having a support system is one of the most important factors in getting back to your normal. The one thing that helped me tremendously was having a best friend that had been through it all before.

But what happens when that friend is no longer there?

There was no certain incident, no dramatic falling out.  There was no indicator as to why the friendship ended, but things were no longer the same. It hurt like a bad breakup. That friend who was there for you through the hardest of times just slipped away. But here’s something I learned through it all –

Take care of yourself.

I know that’s probably not what you wanted to read. You wanted to see exactly what could get your friend back. I realized that I quit taking care of myself by questioning every little thing I could have done wrong. I drove myself insane nitpicking everything I might have said or done. The moment I sat myself down and realized how much stress I caused myself, I decided it was time to take care of me.

There will always be days that I want my dearest friend back.

It’s sad without the inside jokes, constant text messages and the advice I could get instantly. I finally had that wake up moment where I saw how blessed I still was. Just because one person no longer wanted to be in my life doesn’t mean I should forget about those that continue to be there. So sure, it’s heartbreaking to lose a friend, but being thankful for those I’m surrounded with allows me to see how truly blessed I am every single day.
