0

We have just kicked off our FOURTH year of Homeschool in our house with a Kindergartener and a 3rd grader. As we enter a new year, here are my list of tips for getting back into the rhythm:

Set your start date: Whether its the same time as your local school, after labor day, or early August, pick your start date and start talking about it with the kids in advance.

Spend the week before or weekend planning your year (or at least the start):Take the time to get organized, think about how you want the year to go, and hype yourself up for the first week

Make the first day special: Balloons, streamers, a special breakfast, a new outfit, or whatever is special We have just kicked off our FOURTH year of Homeschool in our house with a Kindergartener and a 3rd grader. Set realistic expectations: Keep the first week (or couple weeks) light. Include an all about me project, read aloud time outside. Whatever you think you should do, cut it in half.

Be ready to adapt: Sometimes what we think will work well in our heads isn’t actually what is best and doesn’t work well with your kids. That is just fine! This is the beauty of homeschool. Adapt. Change. Get a different curriculum. You make the rules!

Plan a field trip at the end of the week: Mark the end of your first week with a celebration. A zoo day, apple orchard, park playdate or a trip to the ice cream shop. Everyone deserves a treat at the end of the first week!

Wishing you and your family a wonderful new homeschool year!
