What do I pack in my hospital bag? Being a first-time mom I wasn’t sure exactly what I was gonna need at the hospital. So naturally, I turned to the all mighty Pinterest for ideas. I then found myself overwhelmed with all these large lists of items.
Every pin I opened stated, “ While packing your hospital bag think of everything you need to get through labor and a postpartum extended stay if needed.” Way easier said than done, that’s for sure. After combing through list after list, I pieced together my own hospital bag pack-list. Here are the items that I packed in my bag.
Hospital bag for Labor and Delivery:
- Driver license and insurance cards
- Toiletries / Beauty Essentials
-
- Shampoo/Conditioner
- Body Wash
- Tooth Brush
- Tooth Paste
- Makeup Remover Wipes
- Lotion
-
- Always Discreet Underwear: These were an absolute lifesaver for me.
- Slippers
- Flip flops for the Shower
- Contacts, Contact Case, Solution and/or Glasses
- Deodorant/Deodorant Wipes
- ChapStick
- Comfy Clothing:
-
- Comfortable pants – Such as oversize PJs, sweatpants, leggings, yoga pants. Something with a stretchy waist is a must!
- Sports Bra / Nursing bra – If you plan on pumping or breastfeeding make sure you have a bra that is made for easy access.
- Sweatshirt – Hospital rooms can get cold even in the summer. I chose a sweatshirt that zipped up, made it easier for pumping and nursing access.
-
- Hair Ties
- Hair Brush
- Phone w/Charger
- Nursing Bra Pads
- Snacks
Postpartum Stay:
- Ipad w/Charger
- Pillow
- Blanket
- Nursing Pillow / Boppy Pillow
For baby:
- Infant Car Seat
- Swaddling Blanket
- Clothes for Baby
From my personal experience, it’s a good idea to be prepared, you never know when your little one or ones will make their appearance. Or if you’re like me your doctor may send you to the hospital unexpectedly for an emergency. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
